Guatemala Highschool 2018

Hello there everyone! This is Cuinn, and I’m going to be taking over the blog today. Today was our last day at the village, and we got a lot of work done on the cistern. We spent a lot of time mixing and pouring concrete, and making trips down to the river to collect water for the project. We worked hard on this cistern all week long, and though we didn’t get to see it completed, working with the locals and seeing the hard work and sacrifices that they make every day in order to bring clean water to the village was truly inspiring. While working on this cistern over the course of the week, I learned to have a good attitude about everything I do. Whether I was caked in concrete after pouring or standing shin high in a polluted river to collect water, having the right attitude made every task a good time. Hello everyone! It was another great day here in Guatemala. We went to another school where Jonathan and I (Jake) taught a lesson to the children. I taught about the Good Samaritan and Jonathan taught the Parable of the Talents. It was so encouraging to me to see how the Lord is working even in these small villages. I am again amazed at the joy and happiness that the villagers show towards us. It is so fun to work along side them. A little update on the cistern. We are still slowly building up the walls with concrete and cinderblocks. It is getting pretty tall, we have started to need scaffolding to reach the top. Thankfully, no one has gotten sick yet... but please continue to pray for health for us. Thank you all so much for your prayers for the Gospel to be well received and the work to go well. Hello everyone, Today we were able to visit a school and share the good news with the children and teachers of the school. Along with Captain, I was fortunate enough to teach a lesson and talk about the parable of the Prodigal Son. I shared that we are fortunate enough to have a God who will forgive and welcome us back with open arms if we repent and accept the forgiveness Jesus gave us on the cross. After the school, we went up to the church to work on the cistern and, because of the large number of people working, I went and sat down next to Chris and had the opportunity to talk to her. One of the conversations we had was about the immediacy of results we expect and receive in the United States. I was discouraged after my lesson because I wondered how I would see the results of it. Chris shared that we may not always see the fruits of our labor immediately, but to always remember we don’t always see how God is working immediately, but never doubt that He is working. I feel so lucky...

Today, we traveled to the village which we were planning to work with. From our hotel, the village was about one and a half hours away. The village was beautiful. It felt as if we were back in the mountains of Colorado. The people who we interacted with were grateful for us to be there and I can say for our team, that we are incredibly blessed by them. We were able to play some games with the local children and we did some concrete work. Our goal is do our kids club tomorrow along with showing The Jesus Film in the afternoon. Please pray for all of us as we plan to do crafts, lessons, and games for these children. Pray that our message of the Gospel will be accepted by the people and that they will put their trust in Jesus. Bienvenidos from Guatemala! It’s been a great couple of travel days and I’ve had the chance to chat with some of my teammates that I don’t know as well! I’m asking a lot of questions and learning a lot about them. I’m excited to see what the Lord has in store for our work in the village. There were some unexpected roaches and spiders, but it’s an opportunity to put on our flexible pants and trust God. We went to a delicious breakfast this morning and had a long drive to Huehuetenango. We had the chance to play games and start reading our book for the week, “Do Hard Things.” It talks about the history of the word teenager, and how others’ expectations change our performance. So far, I like it and I’m excited to keep reading. Tomorrow, we are going to the village and we will begin our kids club and start our work!
